spaces after period changes when going to next line

I have Word 2003, am typing a single-spaced document. I double space after a
period, which works fine until the period ends one sentence. When I double
space to start the next sentence, the word moves over one space, and I have
it set on left justified. Everything else stays left justified until a new
sentence is to begin.

Any idea what I'm talking about? Thanks.

No, I'm afraid your description doesn't generate any mental image. If you
mean that an extra space at the end of a line is wrapped to the next line,
then you may need to change a Compatibility option (Tools | Options |
Compatibility: Wrap trailing spaces to next line). I won't address the fact
that it is quite unnecessary to put two spaces after a period unless you're
using a monospaced font.

Okay. Now I'm dumb. How do you get the next sentence started after a period
if you don't double space?

You type the first letter of the first word of the sentence. Sorry, I
have no idea what you're asking.

You press the spacebar once, then type the first letter of the next
sentence.
