SP4 Two Problems

P

Paul

Installed SP4; now, two network connections don't hook up
to a Linksys NAS unit; and my internet connections is
either terribly slow or will not take me to links
anymore. Was using IE 5.5; tried upgrading to 6; got
several error messages; went back to 5.5....same problems.

HELP!

Thanks!

Prior to installing Win2K SP4, the 3Com 3C920 Integrated
Fast Ethernet Controller (3C905C-TX compatible) on my Dell
Precision 530 Workstation routinely established 100Mb
connection with a Linksys BEFW11S4 V.2 EtherFast Wireless
Access Point, Cable/DSL router with 4-port switch.

After installing Win2K SP4, I had to set the 3Com 3C920
controller Media Type property to 10Mb, Half Duplex in
order to attain reliable TCP/IP communication with other
computers on my LAN and to those on the Internet.

It should be noted the 10Mb ethernet connection speed is
only required when I boot Win2K Pro with SP4. When I boot
Redhat Linux 7.1, the 3Com 3C920 controller establishes a
reliable 100Mb ethernet connection.

I also have had the same exact problem with the 3COM integrated NIC. I have
installed updated drivers from Dell, and even new drivers from 3COM, all
without help. I tried different port settings, both on our switch and on
the card, eliminating negotiation, etc., no help. I just submitted this to
Dell. We'll see.
