SP4 Logon Failure

Carter Fleener

After installing SP4 (without archive option), I cannot
logon with any user. I receive the message: "The local
policy of this system does not permit you to logon
interactively".

This is a PDC/Win2K Server.

What can I do?

Is it truly all users or can an Admin user login? If an
Admin user can login then the problem is most likely that
your Security log is full and the CrashOnAuditFail
registry value has been set to 2 (if this value is 0, then
this is NOT your problem).

To correct this problem you need to purge the Security
event log first. Then you need to change the following
registry value to 1 and then reboot the computer:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.SYSTEM.CurrentControlSet.Control.Lsa.cra
shonauditfail

Thanks for the prompt reply Mark.

It is all users. I can boot up in Safe Mode - AD Repair
and get logged on. Otherwise, no other users can log on.

If I connect to the drive from another computer, it is
successfull.

Look at your group policys. Somewhere in there it is set
to not allow you to logon locally.

Check your group policys.
