SP4 installation using GPO hang halfway. then, PC reboots non-stop. pls help!

Hi,

I had deployed SP4 to all Win2K pro workstations using GPO. most
installations are successful. except for 2 machines.

according to users, the SP4 installation hang halfway with an error "..path
4" or sumthing like that. user restarts PC and from then on it keeps
restarting until you off it. All Safe Mode options doesn't not work.

anybody experienced this before? how to recover other than reformattg and
reinstallating from scratch?

had the same problem with SP3. went great for 500
machines, only 2 had the problem that you mentioned. the
only fix was re-image. i was able to determine that it may
have derived from the fact that the SP was not completely
installed and rebooted prematurely. this led to an old
version of winlogon.exe and hosed the boxes. while it was
unfortunate, my boss was satisfied that 498 of 500 went
flawlessly.
