1. Uninstall SP2 via Add/Remove Programs.

2. Take the advice of this KB article:

What to Know Before Downloading/Installing SP2
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/sp2_whattoknow.mspx

NB: Do not proceed to Step 2 (How Do I Know if My Computer Is Ready to
Install SP2?) until you've taken care of everything in Step 1.

3. Reinstall SP2.

To assure a clean, troublefree install of anything (including Windows
Updates), your anti-virus application should be disabled and all other
running processes closed (e.g., IE, mail client, Office) before beginning
the install.

It is a new installation, after formatting HD, so not software or drivirs
other that the ones installed by Windows XP

Have you tried doing as I suggested?

Let's dig a little deeper.

From http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/sp2_whattoknow.mspx:

"1. Check your computer for unwanted software."

If you've formatted and reinstalled Windows and then connected the machine
to the internet without first installing patches from Windows Updates or
making sure the firewall is enabled, your machine can be infected in less
than 30 seconds. See http://www.cert.org/tech_tips/before_you_plug_in.html.

The presence of unwanted software (read: hijackers, Trojans) is most often
the cause of an unsuccessful install of SP2. Simply running Ad-aware SE
v1.06 does not mean the machine is malware- or Trojan-free. I would allow
at least two (2) hours to run a thorough check for malware and Trojans. NB:
You may need to post your HijackThis log to an appropriate forum.

Here are some helpful links:

When all else fails, HijackThis

use. It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware.

"2. Get the latest PC manufacturer updates for SP2."

Check the Support/Download pages of the machine's manufacturer for graphic-
and audio-driver updates as well as BIOS updates and install them.

Do not assume the drivers installed by Windows XP are also compatible with
SP-2.
Verify SP-2 compatibility and get latest Windows XP drivers from the
hardware manufacturer.

In the web site of the manufacturer, there is not mention of any problems
with SP2 , and not new drivers for my video that apparantly is the problem,
I can use the pc but in safe mode, and I was told that maybe is the native
Ati drivers the problem, so I erase from the folder "Drivers" all Ati*.sys
files, but I need to find what DLL use ATI so I can also erase it.
Any suggestions?
