SP2 via Upgrade, not Auto Upgrade

My XP Home edition is fully up to date with all patches,
etc. I go to M/S's Upgrade site every other day to d/l
whatever has to be done. I prefer not to Auto Upgrade.

My question is will my manual procedure notify me when the
shortened version of SP2 for stand alone, non network use is
available?

I'm just curious - why?

Just a computer policy of mine. I'm disciplined enough to do
my own upgrading on schedule and prefer to take the
initiative rather than have the machine do it for me. In
general, I prefer to do for myself in all aspects of life as
long as I can.

Now, can you answer my question?

Yes, it will notify you. The release of SP2 has been staggered.

Yes it will. If you accept it will then download the needed files - and
if you disconnect it will pick up on the download next time you connect.
Do *not* try to Cancel. It will be of order 100MB plus or minus 20;
work out if the time is acceptable. If it is not wait for CDs to become
available.

Once complete, it will in due course ask you if you want to install. and
at that stage you should make sure nothing else is running - the
installation phase will take 20 mins or so
