sp2 update freezes computer

As suggested by m/s I gave the latest xp upgrade cd sp2
after successfully installing it in my own computer to my
friend, when he installed it to his computer which also
has xp his computer froze up someway through the
installation, he then switched his computer off,
(ctrl>alt/delete does not work on his computer) now his
windows will not start up and he is not happy with me for
giving him the upgrade cd in the first place. how can I
help him ? I am in danger of loosing a friend.
