Hello, Installed SP2 using CD, no install problems.
SP2 removed and added several services.
It also removed the Prefetch folder.
It increased startup and shutdown times by 18 seconds.
Are these standard procedures for a SP2 installation?

Well I have a clean install of SP2 and it boots a lot faster than SP1. Try
using the Disk Cleanup tool and defrag your drive. I noticed in the beta that
if you did a Check Disk and selected Automatically fix file system errors it
would remove a load of redundant indexes. This may speed up your load times.

Your prefetch folder may turn up by itself in three or
four days. If not, it can be turned on in the registry.
A little Google search will find the procedure. In the
meantime, the longer boot, and particularly the much
longer shutdown seems to be common. It may fix itself.

I beamish,
I have incountered the same problems and then some. My worst is when
browsing the net. PC running extremly slow. So slow I'm usually timed out
when trying to open my mail. I had to disable alot of security to even get on
a page, and then it would never completly open. I've moved all to an 80 g hd.
(95% free), increasd cache size, empty cache, deleted fills, and finally was
able to get to about 19.2 Kbps. I now feel like I have a dinasour, rather
then a fairly new system. Very disappointing.

Installing SP2 leaves files scattered all over and invalidates the
previous optimisations through PreFetch. Defrag, and then reboot
three or four times over the next week, so the PreFetch data starts to
get restored, and you will find its 'every three day' mini-optimisation
comes in and things will speed up again
