I apologize if this is a commonly asked question on this site. I have
followed the steps outline in
http://www.msfn.org/articles.php?action=show&showarticle=49 as wella s
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;828930&Product=winxp.
With NO luck!! I keep getting this message.........

---------------------------
Service Pack 2 Setup
---------------------------
Not all files necessary to perform an integrated installation are present.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
I copied an original XP cd to do this with, tried expanding all the files
within and verfied that the read-only attrib was UNSET (turned off).

Has anyone seen this? What file is it looking for exactly? What am I
missing? Please help!!!

Thanks in advance!

Hello Torrey,
What is in the spslprm.log file?
It sounds like the folders under the i386 may be missing.
Extract windiff.exe from the support.cab file on the cd.
Then run windiff and compare the i386 folder on the hard drive with the
i386 folder on the cd.
Thanks,
Darrell Gorter[MSFT]

You don't need to expand all the files from the original XP CD. Quite the opposite. It won't work if you do. This problem is caused by default extraction of the service pack network install file. In order to have all of the files necessary to perform an integrated installation, you MUST use the /X: switch on the commandline of the service pack EXE, or it will not unpack everything. Just running it and allowing it to unpack on its own is not sufficient. Use /X: and you will be able to successfully run update /s:.

You don't need to try to follow the dead links in other responses, or use some 3rd party tool.
