Its tricky but SP2 turns on Windows firewall on the first reboot...so I would be
inclined to turn that off. Not generally sound to have two firewalls running.
That should help get the network running again.

Also check out Norton's pages for advice with installing XP SP2...there are
reports of problems with this product and a patch has been released by them:-

http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/sp2/faq.html#3

"Norton Firewall/Norton Internet Security
Installing Service Pack 2 will not affect Norton Personal Firewall or Norton
Internet Security. The Windows Security Center, which is a component of Windows
XP Service Pack 2, will be aware that you have Norton Personal Firewall or
Norton Internet Security installed, but it will not be able to determine its
working status due to Symantec's tamper-protection technology.

Symantec has released an update which adds compatibility to the Windows Security
Center so that it may report the status of your Symantec security software. This
update is included in Norton Personal Firewall 2005 or Norton Internet Security
2005, and is available by LiveUpdate for Norton Personal Firewall 2004 or Norton
Internet Security 2004. The update will install on Windows XP, but will not take
effect unless you have the Windows Security Center installed."

My best guess would be (assuming that SP2 is not installed at the moment):-

1) Install the Norton Patch
2) reboot and if it works ok set a system restore point
3) Stop all Norton stuff and then reinstall SP2
4) On install reboot choose to turn off XP's firewall

Hope this helps!

Other things take place, also. TCP/IP filtering get locked down
(advanced properties of the TCP/IP protocol), at least on some
computers. This will also take place when updating a firewall if the
security center is running. I have one computer that simply decided on
its own to terminate the ability to view its network. Be also aware
that if removing NAV (and possibly other Symantec products as well) that
Symantec simply forgot to unload from the registry some of the dll hooks
it puts in place for things like script examination. This plays havoc
with installing any firewall in the place of NAV since the dll is
removed by the hook is still in place.

This entire SP2 networking fiasco should be getting the highest level of
attention from its creator.
