SP2 Security Center won't save settings

It really seems much more like a beta than something that was ready for
release! Here's the scenario: I tell it to NOT notify me for firewall
problems (for some reason it doesn't think I have a firewall even though one
is built-in to my Linksys router). That's fine until I reboot - then it goes
back to popping up every few minutes to warn me about the firewall. Half the
time it doesn't recognize that my Norton anti-virus is running, either. I
want to shut this thing off entirely - I'm a big boy and willing to take the
risk myself without this stupid thing popping up to annoy me constantly.
What are my options short of uninstalling SP2?

Dude - Security Center is checking for a "software" firewall on the PC XP is
running - it don't give a hill of beans about no hardware firewall on a
router somewhere. As far as about your AV, well it does show up as not
running initially, because Security Center is started long before your AV,
software Firewall, and many other applications, and SC only polls to check
AV, Firewall, autoupdates every so many seconds - so give it time - it would
be nice if MS gave us a way to set the order of how things are started when
it comes to Firewalls, AV, and the such, we could then make sure they are
the 1st thing up and running (Hint, hint MS - it would be a nice improvement
and great Security Enhancement). About saving your settings, I see this
quite often when the settings are saved on any account other than the
built-in "Administrator" account. Yes your account my be in the admin
group, but it is not "the" Administrator account - some software is just
funny in that way.

Hi

I assume you have tried this:

Control Panel/Security Center, click on the "Change the Way
Security Center Notifies Me" link in the left pane.

If the "Change the Way Security Center Notifies Me" doesn't stick
when you reboot, or you want to disable the Security Center totally,
you can do the following:

Start/Run --> services.msc

Find "Security Center" in the list, double click on it, set
"Startup type" to Disabled.
