SP2 Security Center Settings Disappeared

In the Security Centre the area labelled "Manage Security Settings for:" has
disappeared.
I am unable to set settings for the firewalls exceptions area as a result.
I have had SP2 installed for a couple of months now.

Any ideas? I really do not want to reinstall SP2 again

Thanks

Hi

Note that you don't need the Security Center to adjust firewall
settings:

"Control Panel" --> "Windows Firewall"

For the Security Center issue:

1)
Do you get any error messages when starting the Security Center
from Control Panel?

2)
If the Security Center starts up fine, does it say something about
disabled and controlled by an administrator or something like that?

3)
Is this a computer that is joined to a domain?

Thanks for the response.

I do not receive an error message; it provides no messages such as disabled
or controlled by an administrator, I am the admin. I have 2 computers on a
wireless network, both running XP SP2.

Hi

Does "Control Panel" --> "Windows Firewall" work?

I have the same problem - no icon for Security Center in control Panel -
nothing happens when I try to run it from system tools.
Firewall is working fine (icon).

Here is a message Ramesh responded with to my similar problem.

Restore missing icons to the Windows Security Center:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/seccentericons.htm

It did restore the icons in the Security Center for me. However, it did make
a few hundred registry changes and I have asked him exactly what the program
does behind the scene. You can track that thread by searching for "Cayzee"

Hope this helps

Cayzee,

That utility does not apply here.

Ramesh:

My posting was in response to cbsam's message who originally started this
thread. He has the exact same problem as I did, hence I figured that utility
will help him. I do agree, however, that Erik's problem is different - which
is why I didn't reply to his message, but cbsam's.

Cheers,

Hi Cayzee,

I missed it, and thought your reply was directed to Erik. Thanks for letting me know.
