SP2 Restart Hangs Once During Installation

I just completed a clean install of Windows XP Home on a Dell Inspiron 2500.

I began by installing the original system from the Dell OEM Reinstallation
CD. I rebooted once, and installed SP2 from the Microsoft disk. The first
reboot after installing SP2 hung with a black screen I let it sit for over
an hour. Briefly pressing the power button had no effect, so I forced the
power off by holding down the button. The next startup worked normally, and
the system seems fine.

I'm curious about what happened and if the installation is correct.

With SP2 i always schedule a disk check right after the install (1st restart),
with this in place all goes well,w/o it,most get youre results.p.s. dont ever
let the pc just hang there for hour or so,if no activity seems to be the
result,
restart,hold in power button,etc....

You might want to try My Computer- Management, System tools- Event viewer,
and also look with the device manager for any flags.

What you experienced does happen, and usually is not of concern. I don't
remember if it is a result of a reset process (Hardware) that went awry, or
part of the if that didn't work try this that windows sometimes goes thru on
an initial setup.
