SP2 removed access of laptop to shared files and printers on net

I have a small 2 computer network. The desktop is hard wired to a
linksys wireless router which is connected to a cable modem. The
laptop a Dell 8600 with wireless built in. I have no problem with the
laptop accessing the internet wirelessly, but I can no longer access
the printers or shared files of the desktop, nor can the desktop share
printers or files with on the laptop.

For details:

Node type = unknown
IP routing enabled = no
WINS Proxy enabled = no
dhcp enabled = yes
The network is established as an ad hoc layout.
Both computers have had home network wizard setup with same workgroup
name.
Each computer can see the other node, but if you click the node it
gives an error message saying that it cannot access the node.
Everything worked before SP2 was installed.
Have tried with and without both firewalls (laptop and desktop)
enabled.
Printers are setup for sharing, as are shared file folders.
Firewalls have printer and file sharing setup as exceptions.

Any advice would be helpful
