SP2 on computer that has firewall already

I have XP Home and already have Computer Associates EZ-trust firewall and
anti-virus on my home computer. Is the automatic update with SP-2 going to
work OK or I do I need to uninstall my firewall and virus before it
automatically updates with SP2 tomorrow? My router also has a firewall of
some sort built into it. While MS is giving business users information about
XP Professional and delaying the update for them, all they seem to say is
that few home users have firewalls so it doesn't matter about those of us
that have taken computer security seriously and do have it. Anybody have any
information about this?

You'll get sp2 just fine with your current firewall and av program up and
running. If you want to keep using your firewall you'll have to turn the xp
one off and the alerts for it in the security center after sp2 installs.

You may find SP2 senses the existence of a third pary firewall and turns
itself off.

Q: How does Windows Security Center detect third-party products and their
status?
A: Windows Security Center uses a two-tiered approach for detection status.
One tier is manual, and the other tier is automatic through Windows
Management Instrumentation (WMI). In manual detection mode, Windows Security
Center searches for registry keys and files that are provided to Microsoft
by independent software manufacturers. These registry keys and files let
Windows Security Center detect the status of independent software. In WMI
mode, software manufacturers determine their own product status and report
that status back to Windows Security Center through a WMI provider. In both
modes, Windows Security Center tries to determine whether the following is
true:
An antivirus program is present.
The antivirus signatures are up-to-date.
Real-time scanning or on-access scanning is turned on for antivirus
programs.
For firewalls, Windows Security Center detects whether a third-party
firewall is installed and whether the firewall is turned on or not.

Do you have any info on what firewalls the security center does detect? I
know it doesn't do hardware firewalls and it doesn't see my zone alarm
either, so which ones and what versions? I haven't seen it work yet because
most computers I work on have za installed or a hardware firewall.

Mark Weinreb

SP2's security centre correctly detects ZA version 5.1.011 and ZA Pro
version 5.1.011.

I don't know. Do you have the latest version of Zone Alarm?
