SP2 not recognizing EXT HD

Hi guys,

I have two HD's, one is recognized, one isn't. the one that
isn't recognized is USB powered. when i plug it in winxp says "usb device
isn't recognized" "malfunctioned". i click it and go through the motions of
trying to find a better driver, but it doesn't work. the makers of the
device have a website with drivers, but it's in French and Chinese...

i'm going to try to roll back the SP2 by using sysrestore, and if it still
doesn't work, re-restoring sp2.

Are you sure the USB external HDD is working OK? Have you tried
plugging in another USB device to see if it shows up OK in Device
Manager?
