SP2 kills wireless internet but not wired

After I installed SP2 on two different computers (IBM X31 laptop and a
desktop) I can no longer connecct with the network or with the internet. It
connects fine if I use the wired connection. It connects wireless with the
access point but can not enter the router using its IP address or go thru the
router to the internet or the local network. I have the MS Broadband
wireless networking basestation MN500 combined wireless access point and
router. Both of the computers worked fine before SP2. Another laptop that
does not have SP2 works fine as does a macintosh, all on the same network
and access point - router.

I tried removing and reinstalling the 11 abg Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter in
device manager as another post recommended. I disabled and enabled the
wireless connection in network connections.

I tried disabling the windows firewall, which is another thing: SP2 seems to
disable it sometines when I restart. It tells me there is no firewall so I restart
it. Is this a clue?

I had another firewall, from System Suite5, but it has known issues with SP2
so I disabled it and set it not to install on restart. It does not seem to be
running. I had also set it to allow all connections which effectively bypasses
it but to no avail.

Do I need to install the network version of SP2 instead of the usual windows
update?

Are these known problems that MS is working on? Others seem to have
similar problems but most other posts mention not connecting to the access
point whereas mine connects to the access point but not the router,
network, or internet.

I have the same problem as you, though I'm using Linksys
WAP11. It was all working before until I decided I
wanted some file and printer sharing.. Then BAM!! no more
wireless internet for me, but my computer still connects
to the Access point.. Just it can No longer access the
internet..

A working solution would be appreciated.

Uninstall the MS Broadband Networking Utility completely.

The Microsoft wireless adapter probably needs an update before it can
receive an IP address assignment from the wireless router. I know that
the Microsoft USB wireless adapter definitely needs an update to work
with SP2.

I read somewhere that the IT version of SP2 had better networking features
so I downloaded and ran it on both computers. The desktop works fine now
and connects automatically. The IBM X31 does not. But the X31 connects
fine if I use a wired connection, just the wireless does not work. I disabled
and enabled the wireless card. I again tried with the SP2 firewall off and on.

Anyone else having this problem might try the IT version (Maybe?)

I ran the program on the MS web page to check for updates to the MN500
firmware and it did not find any since the last one I installed about a year
ago.

I can not find the MS Broadband network Utility on either computer. I
searched for broadband and I looked in program files.

Thanks
