SP2 kills home network w/ D-Link

I have a small home wireless network: a PC (D-Link 120+
USB), laptop (built-in WLAN), router (D-Link 614+).

After installing SP2, I had no online connection from
either computer. At times, both could "see" my SSID, but
I could not connect -- got messages like "No network
address assigned", or just blank pages/error dialogs in
IE.

I've spoken to D-Link Support, who have confirmed (a tech
and a supervisor) that the problem is in SP2, and they
can do nothing about it until MS provides updates. I've
had to roll back my system to pre-SP2, and now the
network and Internet connections work perfectly.

Can anyone shed light on this problem? It seems to be a
pretty huge one, if SP2 is shutting down home networks.
Any insight, or news on upcoming fixes?

Well, the tech I spoke with made it clear that it was a
MS problem, and told me to "keep my automatic updates
turned on" -- clearly saying that I'm somehow supposed to
wait for an update to SP2 from Microsoft. (Doesn't make
ANY sense to me, and there is nothing on D-Link's website
about SP2.)

So, I still don't know if it's a firmware problem --
though their latest version was released just a month
ago -- or an OS problem. Either way, we're left with no
connection and no support from either company.

I hope someone has some insight for us.

Ask them if they have a case open with Microsoft and if so email me the case
number. We need more details that what I see here.

This isn't only happening with this setup it's happening
with just a network card connected to a cable modem. I've
bought a second network card cause I thought there was a
problem with it. I had a onboard Intel Pro 100VM and now
a PCI DLINK network card and both will come up
with "Limited or No Connectivity" I get the standard BS
169.x.x.x IP address and can not get any connectivity at
all with SP2!
Any fixes?

I'm fairly confident that the fix that the D-Link Support tech support folks
were probably speaking of is as follows:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];884020.

You'll notice I posted this info in the newsgroups a while back.

I have a hard time understanding how D-Link may be impacted by this issue
and I suspect it is not related but if the D-Link drivers/software is
impacted by this, you can call Microsoft and get this fix free of charge.
If they are speaking of some other fix we need more details. A KB article
number, a case number, anything to go off of. You may consider escalating
your issue with D-Link and have them escalate to Microsoft if they feel it
is a Microsoft issue.
