caveat(?):
Because of a virus on a friend's pc, I re-installed XP using a XP
cd from
the pc manufacturer (will remain nameless). This may be the source fo
the problem. I just don't have the $ or the incentive to purchase XP-
when we already have the CD. Sad to say, it did not re-install
correctly, as there was no icons on the desktop when it completed.
:begin rant
I installed SP2 for XP, and received the above msg: Installation
Successful. I believe that to be a misnomer, however. Code/files being
copied to my hard-drive without hard-drive sectors going down, or
having the hard-drive filled up, is kind of what a normal pc user
would expect. I wouldn't consider that successful. That would be a
stretch... Maybe 'Installation Complete' would be more appropriate.
A successful installation of SP2 for XP would be, perhaps, when one
boots the machine after the code-install has COMPLETED: that the pc
user sees any of these, or in combination:
-more functionality (ahem, as opposed to less)
-faster performance
-more robust code
Having the screen resolution go to 4 bits and the system not
knowing basically what a video-driver is (seems like).. would not be a
successful install to me. Or am I just expecting too much?
I could not do anything else with this pc, due to lack of time. I
didn't think that installing would/should be so difficult. On to
someone with more time on their hands.
:end rant
