I have a HP pavilion a610e special order computer running
xp home ed....I see I am suppose to download the update
for my system restore feature but I cannot find the
download LOL. It say's the update is KB835409 but I go to
windows updates for my pc & it tells me I am up to date.
Other than the sp2 of course as I haven't downloaded it
yet. i am trying to do all the little things I am suppose
to do before I download sp2.
I did a search for this & had no luck, so can anyone
advise me on what I should do? Guess I could skip that
one but hate to really.
Thanks, JD

JD,
Thats a good question. Have you searched in every
download area for WinXP in Microsoft to find the KB835409
download OR Info Data? I had trouble even finding SP 2
until someone gave me a link which I shortened up to see
what would come up for SP 2. It ended up working. If I
find what you want I will post again or send you e-mail.

JD,
P.S. Check Your Installation History Within
the Windows Update Procedure to see if
you can find that it says you already
have downloaded the KB835409 file. Don't
assume that you have completely downloaded
and installed it, though, even if it says
you have. You might find info on how to
uninstall it, then you can download and
install it to be sure you have it all,
if need be.

Also, here is a link you might can do
something with, but I am Not promising:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/

JD,
Do you get FREE 60 day software support from HP
since you have a new computer from it?. I did with this
new Compaq which is combined with the HP Company.

Check at www.hp.com. There's a section on SP2 with links to upgrades for HP
Image and for system restore. Both links are somewhat flaky (it took me
several tries to get them to show a download), but you will eventually get
there.

Oddly, there is no mention made of the 835409 knowledge base article or the
associated patch on the MS web site, so I am very wary of installing the
patch.

I contacted HP to tell them this and said

"If there is a good reason why this patch should be applied despite there
being no mention made of it on the MS website then you should say so,
otherwise the web site should be changed to remove this confusing
information."

They replied and said

"Thank you for writing back.

I understand that the Knowledge base article mentioned on the HP Web
site is not listed in Microsoft Web site"

and that was it.

The web page dissapeared shortly afterwards, but I see that it is now back
again.
I leave it to you to decide whether you want to install the patch

Well I spent six hours online yesterday with a tech on instant support.THE
Patch that they offered on Hp's site will not install.

I searched High and Low and did not find the 835409 on Microsoft's site.
I actually sent a screen shot of the error message pertaining to the
installation failure to a supervisor at HP's Tech support.
All they told me was that the problem had been escalated( I assume to a
software Engineer)
