SP2 Corrupted Network Connections

After installing SP2 today, my system stops booting up after the windows
desktop is drawn. No start menu, no task bar, and no cpu usage either. It
just sits there.

So I restared in Safe Mode, and here's something:
When I go to the firewall Advanced settings tab, I see:
"The network connection settings have become corrupted.
To fix this, click Restore Defaults..."

When I click restore defaults, the screen does not update, and the applet
seems to be hung.

After that, a reboot behaves exactly the same... stops before the taskbar is
drawn.

Restarting again in safe mode, the firewall advanced tab shows the same
message.

I have Mcafee on my system, but that didn't seem to interfere with
installing SP2 on another nearly identical system with Mcafee...

There were several very scary items in the event log -- such as VSS volume
shodow copy service error.

I used system restore to go back, and everything was fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
---Selden

I had a similar problem in that all my network adapters stopped working (I
had no boot problems). I posted the problem on another newsgroup and someone
suggested I look for updated adapter drivers from the manufacturers web site
(Sony), but none were posted. I decided to give up and restored the system
to the pre-SP2 state and everything was back to normal. I guess its MS way
of providing 100% secure system!!
