I've heard (but not reliably) that there is an
incompatibility between XP SP2 and Roxio Goback 3.0,
which I'm running on three computers. I don't want to
experience this incompatibility first-hand, so am holding
off on installing SP2. Can anyone give some useful
advice or documentation? Thanks.

Thanks for the tip, Carey. I went there but couldn't ask
about Roxio GoBack since they don't support it anymore.
I tried Symantec's site but couldn't ask a question there
except by paying $30 to their support number.

I can give you first hand knowledge. You need to
uninstall Goback. Simply disabling it will not work.
Goback alters the Master Boot Record. Installing SP2
with Goback running or disabled caused my computer to go
into an endless loop of restarts and blue screens of
death. I had to go into safe mode and remove SP2 thru
Add/Remove programs. Once Goback was uninstalled, SP2
installed without a problem. I have not reinstalled
Goback yet... too scared right now. I'll try it in a day
or two. I am just using System Restore right now. Hope
this helps a bit. BCA

I just had the same problem with Nero. (which is also a cd burning software)
I just went to the site; downloaded the update and no problems after that.
Go to Roxio's site and I'm sure they will have your update...

My experience: I disabled (did not uninstall) GoBack when I installed
SP2. I did the same to Zone Alarm and Norton 2004.
I then enabled the 3 of them and all works fine.

I installed SP2 today and failed to disable or uninstall GB 3. Installation
went fine, except that SP2 eliminated my cable connection, which neither I
nor the cable supplier could fix. Uninstalling SP2 solved the problem. I
went to GoBack for a restore point and it still functioned, however the
install and uninstall of SP2 had used all of the alloted space where GB
stores its restore info, with the exception one restore point that was the
last available. It got me back to the point in XP where the cable once
again worked. Before installing SP2 you need to uninstall and reinstall GB
using "customize" and enlarge the storage area to accomodate restore points
and the SP2 files.

I installed SP2 on 3 PCs with GoBack. Two installed
without issue, the third one encountered the following
on reboot (continually):

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut
down to prevent damage to your computer.

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

...

Technical information:

*** STOP: 0x000000D1 (0xc0201404, 0x000000FF, 0x00000000, 0xF838E946)

*** GoBack2K.sys - Address F838Y946 base at F838C000, dateStamp 3f4a71d4

I had to start in safe mode and uninstall SP2. I encountered this with
Norton Systemworks 2004 GoBack Personal and Roxio GoBack Deluxe 3.1

If you are using Norton GoBack 2004, the Symantec website says that
SP2 and GoBack work together without issue; however, if you go to Microsoft,
they identify that Norton GoBack can encounter this error when installing SP2.
I'm not to impressed with Symantec misleading customers.

There is a similar problem documented on the Symantec support pages. The
solution is uninstall GoBack. I consider this a non-solution as I
always install GoBack on any computer I own and any computer I must support
(i.e. family members). I've been using GoBack since the WildFire days...
it's a great product that has saved my butt on more than one occasion. I Never
had an issue with it until now :-(

Given a sample size of 3, you have a 66% chance that SP2 will install
with GoBack.
