Hi there everybody,
I'm having some serious problems trying to get my HP Pavilion laptop
(ze4300) up and running again after formatting and I am hoping somewhere
maybe can help.
It all started when a few days ago I decided to reinstall windows xp home to
my laptop because it was acting weird and being slow, and I figured doing a
fresh install would help everything run smoother. Well it didn't.
After installing windows xp again, it seemed to work fine, but there was no
way it would let me install Service Pack 2. Not from an original cd, not from
microsoft update (which didn't even give me the option to download it) and
also not from downloading the 230 mb file from the microsoft site. Every time
I try to extract the SP2 self-extracting cabinet it never finished. Everytime
it comes up with a "file is corrupt" message and then shuts down the
installer. The weird thing is, everytime it hangs up on a different file,
which makes me think it's not the file itself but somehow my computer???
I've redownloaded the file about half a dozen times as well as saving it to
different locations and installing from different locations, But no luck.
Even installing from an original SP2 cd doesn't work.
So I decided to do a full format on my C: drive and do a clean install. But
still no luck. It gives me exactly the same error message as before.
Here are some of the things I've already tried:
-restarting
-checkdisk, several times
-reinstalling windows
-emptying temp folder
-checking the windows system files for damaged files with SFC /Purgecache
followed by SFC /ScanNow.
-virus check
-ad and spyware check
and some other small stuff but nothing made a difference.
I'm totally hopeless at this moment. I really need to get my system up and
running service pack 2 succesfully because all the programs I use pretty much
need SP2.
Does anybody have any idea on helping this problem? I would very much
appreciate it!
Thanks in advance,
Cheers,
Graham Nixon
