SP2 and Wireless network problems

I have tried installing SP2 on 3 PCs, one desktop and 2 laptops with poor
results. I am using a Netgear DG834G router with an ADSL connection and a
wire connected PC and wireless network cards on the other remote PCs.

I am using Zone Alarm 5.1.011 and after installation of SP2, it recognises
ZA. I have disabled the XP firewall.

After installation I am unable to connect to the router and get any form of
internet access. This appears to be due to a problem with IP assignment
under DHCP and appears to be restricted to the PCs with Netgear cards
(WG311v2 on the desktop and WG511T on one of the laptop) as I have had
absolutely no problem with the other laptop which has a Belkin wireless
network card installed. On this machine SP2 installed, the firewall was
disabled with ZA working and all connectivity is unaffected as a result of
the upgrade.

I have uninstalled SP2 on the 2 machines with the Netgear cards and all
returns to normal on reversion back to the Pre-SP2 state with full
connectivity to LAN and internet restored, so it must be a problem related
to the SP2 firewall, despite it bening disabled. I have tried using Windows
to manage the wireless networking settings rather than the Netgear Smart
Configuration utility and this makes no difference. I also tried
uninstalling the Netgear drivers and reinstalling under SP2, but this made
no difference. I checked under TCP/IP Advanced properties Filtering
Properties and they are set to 'Permit All Ports'.

Has anybody had similar problems and if so, what was the solution?

Thanks

Lloyd Jenkins

Having the same prob. uninstalled SP@ and everything went
back to normal. SP2 sucks.

I have had the same problem using a Linksys card.
Rollback fixed all. Why use SP2?

When the windows firewall and security service is disabled, it seems to
leave TCP/IP filtering locked down on some computers. Select TCP/IP
properties of the connection, General tab, Advanced properties, Options
tab, TCP/IP Filtering properties. Check Enable and change Permit Only
to Permit All for all protocols/ports.

Q

I have the same equipment as Lloyd and have the same
problem. I can get the wireless to work only if I turn of
WEP security. I have good connection strength but I am
unable to get connected, is this an issue with the
NEtgear cards or just SP2 ?. I guess I too will probably
have to roll back, since I dont want to run without WEP.
Any suggestions would be apprechiated.
