SP2 and network

I have two computers, one with SP1 and the other SP2. I set up a network,
computer with SP1 sees itself in My Network Places and also gets response
when pinging its ip, but does not see the other computer and no response for
pinging the ip of the other computer. The computer with SP2 does not see
itself and the other computer and no response for pinging its ip or the ip
of other computer.

I checked everything, workgruop names etc and I turned off firewalls but the
result is the same. Do you have any idea?

I am planning to uninstall SP2
 
1. Un-install any 3rd Party Firewalls, use only XP Firewall.
2. Run Network Wizard on both PC's.
3. Once LAN and Web browsing is working on both PC's re-install and set-up
any 3rd party Firewalls.

OR follow Carey's step by step guide. I have in the past. Magic.
