There seems to be no easy way to remove SP2.-system restore ?-no restore
point-remove programmes?-doesn't work.Do I have to start from "just out of
box" condition or is there realy some other way? Comments like" get a
playstation"or other sarcasim are no use.If SP2 is so good why all the
questions about it?Even big computer stores are advising against installing
it. Very few of us are" experts"and were doing ok before this badly
thought-out "upgrade" was installed.Microsoft should do the right thing and
bring out a" fix"for it!

What does "doesn't work" mean? Error messages, what happens, details,
details, details, and more details please.

"just out of box" condition or is there realy some other way?

You could if you want, but usually uninstalling from add/remove programs
works fine.
Comments like" get a playstation"or other sarcasim are no use.If SP2
is so good why all the questions about it?

Because this is a group for questions about it. If you go to a hospital do
you see sick people or are all the rooms full of healthy people? Of course
you see sick people. Since this is a "help me with windows" group you see
people asking for help that have problems. People do not come here to post
how good windows and sp2 is, nor do we want them to.
Even big computer stores
are advising against installing it.

Trusting anything a "big computer store" says is not a smart idea. I have
never met an employee in a big computer store that knew more than just the
average user. Use caution whe talking to salesmen or "techs" at these
stores.
Very few of us are" experts"and
were doing ok before this badly thought-out "upgrade" was
installed.Microsoft should do the right thing and bring out a"
fix"for it!

Since it was beta tested on millions of different machines by millions of
users, I'd hardly call it badly thought out. For the majority it works fine.
If you'd like some help, please post your exact problems with lots of
details, errors, and any relevant info about your machines specs and maybe
someone can help you.

Jay;
If Add/ remove Programs and System Restore do not work, perform a
Repair Installation:
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/repaxp.htm

For the most part there are no problems with SP-2.
SP-2 is possibly the most tested piece of software ever.
However how many Windows XP computers in the world?
Now take into account no two computers are identical.
No one including Microsoft could test on all possible configurations.

There are already a few fixes as well as a large amount of information
from various sources including Microsoft.

Many can be prevented by ensuring your computer is ready for SP-2:
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/spackins.htm

As for your comment "Even big computer stores are advising against..."
Can you cite a reference?
If not, you may be the victim of a lazy or possibly incompetent tech.
If it were true, these same "big computer stores" would have
references to this on their website.
If it is not on the website, it is the opinion of the tech and nothing
more.
It is often easier for the tech to have something uninstalled or not
installed to save them work now or later.

As for a fix, exactly what do you want a fix for?
SP-2 works fine on most computers so a change to SP-2 is not
warranted.
Software and hardware compatibility issues are the responsibility of
the respective manufacturers so contact them if that is the issue.
You may find that a software or hardware driver update is already
available since the better ones have been working on this for months
and had the appropriate changes/patches available upon release of
SP-2.

Most information needed it at the manufacturers website.
Microsoft also has a great deal of information, some referenced on
this link:

Most people don't, but until someone invents some
infallible engineering methodology, and it's adopted but
everyone, some percentage of people will.

That is a nice idea, but since there is nearly an infinite variety of
hardware and software available and Microsoft having no control of
either, the nice idea will never happen.

DETAILS-
Remove programmes results in-"An error occured while trying to remove SP2 It may have already been removed" & System restore-no date previous to installation is available

That error message means someone deleted the uninstall folder that sp2 uses
it uninstall itself or the folder is corrupt some how because it says it
can't find the uninstall exe. Is sp2 working? Why are you trying to
uninstall it?

Jay;
Did you follow the steps in my previous post and perform a Repair
Installation as I suggested?
