SP2 AC Power requirements

I own a laptop with the charging circuit has died.
The battery is allways connected to a charger so never goes dead.
I want to upgrade to SP2, but error You must be conected to AC power to
install SP2

How do i modify the registry to fool it ino thinking i am on ac power?
Will the registry mod also make it run faster as it has slowed down
considerable?

Thanks

There must be something else wrong. If your laptop is always connected to
the charger, then it IS connected to A/C. While it is connected to the
charger, remove the battery and see if the computer shuts down. If it does
not shut down, then you are definitely running on A/C. If it does, then your
charging circuit is indeed broken and the fact that you are on A/C is not
making itself known to the operating system.

PLEASE NOTE: some laptops will NOT operate with the battery removed.
Consult your operating manual to verify that you computer will run with the
battery removed.

That is a configuration that I am not familiar with. That would make the
battery external to the laptop then as near as I can tell.

The normal configuration is: WALL --> POWER SUPPLY/CHARGER --> COMPUTER
(with internal battery). I am not doubting you, but I just haven't seen many
other configurations.

Afraid I can't help you.
