Installed a new hard drive & then installed sp1a on my notebook. Now the
hard drive remains busy for about 15 minutes & seems to slow down the
system. Went to windows task manager & see the cpu usage is low ~10% & the
page file history is a flat line ~140mb. So how do you find the I/o usage
.... . Anyone got any ideas? TIA

Press Ctrl + Alt + Del and bring up task manager, then go to View >
select columns and check I/O Read, I/O Write.

www.systeminternals.com

Since it is a new drive, it is probably Indexing Service and Prefetch. This
activity will be at a relatively high level until they "do their thing",
then will return to normal.
