I think I'll order the CD.

BTW, if I install SP1a will I be unable to run my Java
apps?

No, SP1a will not remove or disable Java.

You can still get the MS Java Virtual machine from several sites; or he
Sun one from their site (Be warned - that one insists on being installed
when you are on line, and is a large download. Likely to take half an
hour on dial up)

You can download an Offline Installation version this way:


Under "Download J2SE v 1.4.2_03" here
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html

click the "Download" link under the JRE (not SDK) column,
and you will get the option to download this file:

Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language
(j2re-1_4_2_03-windows-i586-p.exe, 14.52 MB)
