A number of the faculty in our institution have licensed
copies of Windows XP installed on their home machine,
however, they as they use dialup connections to the
internet, they are unable to download SP1 because of it's
size. The connection times out before the file is
downloaded.

Is there a way to copy the service pack to a CD, so it
can be installed on these remote machines?

Thanks for your help.

Note: Select "Network Installation" (32-bit version), download SP1 to a
new folder on your Desktop, then record the SP1 file to a CD.

Download the SP1 file and burn to CD.

And if you don't want to order it, just have a friend download it from
the Windows Update Catalog (or look in TechNet for a link) and burn on
a cd-r. I do this with all the MS updates for clients who only have
dial-up. I'm certainly not going to sit there at their house for hours
trying to download this stuff with their AOL!

At
http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/pro/downloads/servicepacks/sp1/default..asp
either download the 'Network' version on the right (130MB) and burn CDs
from it; or order the SP on CD - down at the bottom is the link $10
plus S&H IIRC -
though the corresponding UK page
http://www.microsoft.com/uk/windowsxp/servicepacks/sp1.asp
links to provide it for free
