I have recently installed SP 2 for Windows XP. Now that it
is installed on my system it has been causing my system to
lose it's connection to the network at random times. The
hardware shows a solid connection, but Windows itself is
disconnecting from the network and showing an icon on my
task bar. The only way to regain the connection is to
change firewall settings (enable / disable / random
settings) or disable and re-enable the network connection.
I have come to believe that the new firewall is to blame,
however I have no way to back up this theory. I prefer to
leave the windows firewall off (I am behind a hardware
firewall), though it does not matter.

Even as I write this post I have been disconnected, it is
becoming a very serious problem. Has anyone experienced any
similar problems or knows of a solution? Please help me out.

this is not going to be much help as i didnt know where to post but i wld
like to know how to set up my win xp pro sp2 as a router for my network and i
hav e no idea how to do it,any help is welcome
thank u all

Aaron,

please have a look at http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm,
particularly at the Winsock repair procedure.

Gaz,

not so bad for a start. You picked the right newsgroup.

The key word is Internet Connection Sharing (ICS). You have to
enable that in the computer you want to use as the router.

The setting is in the IP setup of the network adapter that is
connected to the Internet. That can be a dial-up connection or
some other connection.
