SP 2 mouse and keyboard problem

After installing service pack 2 on win xp pro system the keyboard and mouse
dont work. I tried 'Last Good Configuration' and 'Safe Mode' but still no
luck. Is there hope or do I have to reinstall windows?
 
What type of mouse/keyboard connections? You may have to start up in "Safe
Mode" and clear out keyboard/mouse settings in Device Manager.

If it is a USB connections: Clear out "USB" devices and HID sections.

After a reboot, XP should re-detect them.
