SP 2 and Windows repair

My paid computer experts, after a lot of investigation, have advised me that
I have a corruption in my Win XP (home) installation and must perform a
repair installation on it. I think I know the basic XP repair procedure.
Step One. Back everything up first, just in case. Insert XP disk, etc. etc.
No problem with following the procedure (I hope).

Now my XP disk doesn't have SP 1 or 2 on it, and I have to remove SP2 before
performing the repair and that's my real problem. When I last did a clean
install of my XP, I had great difficulty in re-installing SP2. Really I did!
It took hours and I was afraid it would never take. I had to go through the
whole installation 4 times before it finally went in. So my question is
this... In order to avoid any possible problem re-installing SP2 after my XP
repair, is there any way to add SP 1 and 2 to my XP disk and then do a repair
install of the whole thing at one time?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

PS I'm not actually sure whether or not my XP already has SP 1 on it or
whether I'll have to remove it too if it's there. On the bright side,
reinstalling SP1 gave me no problem on the clean install I did some time ago.

You do not need to remove any Service Pack or updates prior to performing a
Repair Installation.
But any updates or Service Pack not included on the CD used for the Repair
Installation will be gone and need to be reinstalled.

Slipstreaming SP-2 into the installation CD can save a lot of work:

If you had problems installing a Service Pack, there were probably
pre-existing problems which should have been resolved first:

Thanks for all the links, Michael. Information looks great. I'll follow
your instructions and I'll add a final note to this thread when I've done the
repair install. Your help is much appreciated. And thanks for the reader
link too.

I completed the repair, got a couple of error messages towards the end. Had
trouble updating at first but the SP2 (on disk) went in without difficulty.
Alas, when it was all done, the basic problems I was trying to correct were
still there. But the help I recieved here was great. Thanks again.
