SP 2 ... "Active Content files"

G

Gene

When using FrontPage to design web pages I always "view
them in IE".

As soon as I click "Preview" I get a Pop Up saying "To
help protect your security, Internet Explorer has
restricted this file from showing active content that
could access your computer".

I get the same pop up when I try to open previously
designed web pages ON MY PC without even going thru IE.

There must be a setting to prevent this? Can anyone help?

Thanks.

I think you may be running afoul of the Local Zone Lockdown settings in
SP2. These are designed to prevent active content from running from the
hard disk.

I suggest you begin by searching the FrontPage support site for
recommendations on how to get around this. Look for SP2-specific problems.

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\0
and
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Lockdown Zones\0
are of interest, too.. In both there's a key named "Flags" and its default value is 0x21 (33).

If you set "Flags" in Zones\0 to 0x01 (1) the "My Computer" zone is going to become
visible and you may configure the security settings to your needs.

It may be enough though to enable "Allow active content ro run in files on My Computer"
and see "Internet Options -> Advanced" for more.

See
http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/security/szone/overview/overview.asp
http://www.phdcc.com/xpsp2.htm
for more, too or just use an alternative browser for testing your stuff

Cheers,
Juergen
