SP-1 Update - Available For Download?

I have read through this newsgroup, and various Microsoft bulletins
regarding SP-1. It seems that you have two choices. Either use
Microsoft Update, or get the CD from Microsoft. I need a copy to
install on a friend's computer that is on dial-up, and can't wait to
get a CD. Surely there must be some way to just download SP-1
directly to my hard drive to make my own CD copy.

Another question. Is there actually a 2003 version of Windows XP
Home? I thought all copies of XP Home were the same from the get go.

Hi Dick,

Yes, you can download SP1a directly from Microsoft. When you download it via
Windows Update, it examines your PC and just downloads the bits needed, to
save time. Therefore, if you download it for installation on another PC, or
get it shipped to you on CD, it's quite a large file.. about 130MB, which is
no problem if you're on broadband but might be tedious via dialup!

The file can be found here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...79-fa3a-48bf-ade5-023443e29d78&DisplayLang=en
If the above link doesn't work, go to www.microsoft.com and search for
"Service Pack 1a Network Install".
In case you were wondering, SP1a is the same as SP1, except that it doesn't
include the Microsoft Java virtual machine implementation, due to legal
harassment from Sun.

Hope this helps..?
