Access version: XP
Windows version: XP
Lan Environment

I another job we had XP Developer, which came with VSS. The adding
the add-in was painless. At my current job we just purchased and
installed (had to be a system admim b/c we are locked down) VSS 2005.
How do I make VSS become functional with Access XP.

Thanks for looking.

I think for xp, you need the devlopers editon.

For acces 2003, the VSS add-in was a free download.

For a2003, it is a simple download. I not 100% sure, but for access xp
(2002), the vss add-in was not free.

I not tired the 2003 add in with a2002...I don't recommend, but is very
possible it can work, since both a2002-a2003 are supposedly the same
format...

Also, I not tired the add-in with VSS 2005, but only the previous vss 6.0
which was for C++, vb6, and the older MS platforms. I don't know if even the
access 2003 vss add-in works with Vss 2005...

Albert,

Thanks for reply so quickly.

We do currently have Access XP Pro and have purchased and installed
the stand alone versioin of VSS 2005. This is why I would like to
find out how to make VSS work with Access. In the three years I used
it at the UofA (ver 6.x) we never had a problem (I have seen the
negative web post). Maybe we were lucky, I'm not sure. In the
future, my company is going to move to Access 2003...

Again thank you for your time.

I think Albert is correct that for Access XP, Office XP Professional is not
sufficient for SourceSafe integration. You have to also purchase the Office
XP Developer Edition, which is an add-on package that includes the
SourceSafe integration. I'm not sure where you might find a copy of that
Developer Edition now. If you have an MSDN subscription, it used to be
included with that.

For Office 2003 and 2007, the SourceSafe integration is a free download. But
I would be hesitant to develop in Office 2003 or 2007 and deploy in Office
XP. Things that "should" work, don't always, and SourceSafe integration
seems especially trouble-prone when you cross Access versions. I had a lot
of corruption problems when developing in 2003 and deploying in 2007, and
vice versa.
