try with system restore...(start/all programs/accesories/tool systems)

you probably chose some special effects that came with the software for your
soundcard or special effects in the mediaplayer like the WOW EFFECT in
"enhancements"?

yes. exactly. how do I fix that without system restore?

if "exactly" refers to "windows media player" open it and go to the Now
Playing screen .push the green button right under the words "NOW
Playing".click enhancements and turn off everything you don't need in
there.(SRS WOW EFFECT?)
If you are using software that comes with your soundcard or a mediaplayer
that you downloaded you have to tell us WHICH ONE first.
there's literally hundreds of different ones with even more features!
