Sounds in PP 2007

G

Glen

Having added and setup a .wav file to run with my slideshow, it doesn't play.
The file plays in Windows Media Center and it also worked in Office 2003 but
not in 2007. The presentation is important to as it is a memorial to a
recently killed friend. By the way, I even tried to remake the and save the
presentation in PP 2007 and that still didn't work. I now have 2 files, ppt
and pptx that won't work. Any assistance is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

How did you insert the sound?

Assuming Insert > Sounds
Select the sound icon
In Sound Tools click the little arrow to the right of "Sound Options"

Does it say somewhere File "Contained in presentation" or something else?

G

Glen

I followed the instructions in the program. I have tried both embedding and
linking to the file, which is in the same folder, and it does not work either
way.

Try putting the presentation and the sound in a folder like C:\test -- does
it work then?

G

Glen

Just tried it and it did not help. Thanks for the advice. Anything is worth a
try.

Once you put both in that C:\test folder, try reinserting the sound into the
presentation. Does it play now?

Then also, as John said:

Does it say "contained in presentation" or something else?

Still does not play. Tried embedding and linking the file and neither one
worked. I want to go back to Office 2003! LOL

I inserted it by going to insert, sound then using custom animations to set
it up to play through the whole show, for 65 slides.

When I embed it it states contained in presentation, but when I link it it
states the file location. Sorry I had to go out.

When you link it, how are you linking it?

Also, where does the WAV come from?

To link the file, you just have to have the size limit on sounds set lower
than the .wav file. My file is 385 KB so I set the Limit to the default of
100 KB. Then the program links it instead of embedding it. The .wav file is
in the same folder as the ppt presentation. It was downloaded and plays just
fine in Windows Media Player. Not a compatability issue

Thanks for the information on how you linked it. I was wondering if you were
using Insert | Object. Seems you're not -- that's good.

I asked about where the WAV comes from because I wondered if digital rights
management was an issue. DRM could keep the sound from playing in PPT.

If the file is in the same folder as the presentation when it's linked, it
should play in PPT, assuming the path length is not too long (and assuming
DRM isn't an issue). I can't remember if I suggested that you put both the
sound and the PPT file in a folder called C:\test and reinsert the sound.
That would be to test the path length. However, when the WAV is embedded,
the path length shouldn't matter.

What really doesn't matter is if the file plays in Windows Media Player.
What really *does* matter is if it plays in the MCI Media Player. You can
read about that here: http://www.playsforcertain.com/tutorial.htm

You know, ISTR troubles with WAVs with variable bitrates. Wonder if that's
coming into play here. But I'm leaning toward DRM since it won't play in PPT
whether linked or embedded.
