Sounds are gone????

Windows 2000, I get this error when I try to use
Mediaplayer 9: Error ID = 0xC00D11BA

I don't even get the normal sounds when programs close and
so on. Please advise ASAP.
 
were you able to get help with this problem? I am facing
a similar issue...
