Hi ,

I facing lot of problems with vista basic, i am using the lenova y500 series
laptop installed with vista basic its sound quality is very poor,not able to
hear anything second thing i am not able play my dvd's with windows media
player

Vista is pathetic with media... slow unstable slow buggy slow bad slow
Vista is so bad its even funny!

For example.. why watch a comedy? Just sit in front of the vista screen and
do some stuff...
you will run in so many problems it will be hilarious.. vista shortcomings
provide endless fun and enjoyment for all the family!

Seriously install another OS, return vista for a refund and let whoever sold
it to you, know that its crap.

If your computer came preinstalled with vista, call them and complain...
telling them that they should urge people to use another OS and not give
Vista with their new computers.

Only through action will they get the message that vista is total trash.

Sorry to hear you are having a bad time with Vista.

Regarding sound. There's no major, general problem with sound in Vista
itself. But you could find specific problems, depending on your hardware,
and the device drivers you have installed. Did your laptop come with Vista
pre-installed? If so, the machine is probably still under warranty. Your
best bet would be to contact Lenovo support for help. Or if the machine came
with XP and you have upgraded to Vista, you need to install the
Lenovo-specific device drivers for the Realtek audio chip:

Of course, don't forget to adjust the volume and speakers - go to Control
Panel, Sounds, and check the various settings there.

Regarding playing DVDs. Yes, this sounds like a well-known issue. It's not
really a bug, although it's a pretty disappointing aspect of Vista. In Home
basic edition (and most editions, apart from Ultimate), no video Codecs are
supplied or installed by default. You need to obtain and install your own
codec. If you have any DVD-burning software, these often come with a codec
for playing DVDs. Otherwise, you can obtain one for free, or at fairly low
cost, from www.wmplugins.com. This was a poor decison by Microsoft, IMHO -
you should be able to just stick a DVD into Vista and it will play. But
that's not how they packaged Vista. Instead you need to manually go and find
your own codec.
