sound won't play

I have inserted an mp3 sound in a Powerpoint 2003 show but the sound
won't play no matter what option I choose (mouse clike, with previous,
after previous.)

The sound does play on this machine when double-cliked on Windows
Explorer. It is in the same folder as the Powerpoint file.

I have another far slower machine with Powerpoint 2003 and the sound
file will play in that show. So something must be wrong with my set-up
on this machine. Any ideas?
