The sound volume controls are turned up to 100% in order to get normal
volume. Why is this necessary? Is there a fix so that I can access higher
volume in the future when needed?

Barry;
Is the Volume Control on the speakers also turned up?
Are the speakers louder on another computer?
Go to your sound card manufacturers website and get the latest Vista
drivers.

I use a new Sony VGN-AR320E laptop that came with Vista pre-installed. I've
got all of the controls at the max and they produce sound that I associate
with being "average volume". With music, I like to have it a bit louder.
I'll try the Sony web site and see if there's an update on anything...but I
would assume that a new computer with a Vista OS would have compatible sound
cards etc.

Barry

Barry;
It is also possible something is wrong with the hardware.
