I would like to insert some sound and video clips into my
presentation. What are the best file formats to use?

Before a good answer can be provided, what is your ultimate goal? Are you
planning to distribute your presentation to other systems? If so, then
you'll want to select the format that is most likely to work on many
systems. If the presentation is only going to be played on one system, a
different answer would be provided. Is size of importance? How important
is quality versus size? etc.

Esther,if your target audience running on windows,I recommend windows media
format with window media 7 or 8 codecs.

Karl
