Sound Problems

I have an Asus PB5 mobo, an Intel Core 2 duo E6600 processor, G force 7900gs
video card, 2 western digital HD, 1-250g and 1-500g(partitioned), 4g of PC2
6400 mem. I have been running Vista Ultmate since Feb 2007.

Since I have installed SP1 on my Vista Ultmate (installed on my 500g hard
drive in a 250g partition) I have had intermittent sound problems. More
often than not, I do not have any system or speaker sound. I know it is not
the hardware. I have XP Pro SP3 installed on my 250g hard drive, with Server
2003 in a Virtual Machine and have sound working on both...(Yes, I have sound
on a Virtual Server). I dowloaded the latest driver from Asus, uninstalled
the driver, re-booted and the driver installed and I had sound for about 20
hours, then it stopped. I just repeated the same procedure and now have
sound again. All of my drivers are updated... Any idea why this keeps
happening?

P.S. Maybe you can tell me why my Slide Show in Windows Picture Gallery has
never worked, and why SP1 fixed my Windows Picture Gallery, which stopped
working after the third month after installation?

TaurArian,

Thank you for the information. I did obtain the latest driver, then
uninstalled the current driver. After rebooting, I did have the window
stating it was installing hardware. It did work for 20 hours after that.
The device manager shows that the driver is installed and it cannot find a
better match than the one I have. There is also something strange about the
whole thing. When you look in the sound window, you can see the volume bars
moving up and down, but no sound. I repeated the procedure tonight and at
this point I still have sound. I wonder how long it will last this time.
