Sound Problems when running certain DOS Games in XP

Whenever I run certain DOS games on Xp, for example
Heretic, Hexen, Leisure Suite Larry 7, there is a lot of
static and the gameplay starts slowing down. Is this a
problem with the hardware or not? I have Soundlbaster
Live 5.1 and have the latest XP drivers. Let me know if
you can help me out here. Thanks guys.

If the games could run fine under Win98 or Win ME, use the XP compatibilty mode to run it.
