Sound problem

Hi,
I booted my computer today and I realized that I dont have any volume
and the speaker icon was missing form the taskbar, so I manually tried
to go into volume control through entertainmrnt menu and it said "
There are no mixer devices available". I than checked under device
manager and found two speaker icons with yellow exclamation marks, the
first one with yellow exclamation read, ESS 1969 PCI AUDIODRIVE (WDM),
and the second one, MICROSOFT KERNEL DLS SYNTHESIZER. I uninstalled
these two devices and rebooted and installed the drivers from the
windows xp disc, but still no volume and the devices are listed again
under device manager. I have a Compaq system with intergrated sound
card.
I appreciate any help.
Thanks.

Did you delete your sound cards that showed up in your device manager?

If not - then do it - shut computor down - count to 5 - start it up - The computor should
find a new device ( not two ) when it asks for driver - use your install disk that your sound card has.

Hope it works
