i just bought a computer, and I want to hook my computer up with my stereo
system and control the stereo using my PC. Is that possible? if not, can i
setup my stereo speakers to the PC and still have control over the speakers
with my stereo? How do i do all that stuff?

The thing is, I don't even know how to hook up the stereo speakers to my PC.
I can do it with regular computer speakers, but when i do it with the stereo
speakers, it has no sound... do i need to buy a sound card or something?

thanks for helping

I do know how you can correctly hook up your speakers to
your computer. I just recently did it. It is no trouble
at all. First you need to go to a store that has
electronics (Walmart is fine) and ask for a stereo-to-rca
cord. It looks like something you would plug into your
speaker port at one end (one plug) and the other has two
ends (one red and one white or black). Once you buy that,
hook it up to your computer's speaker port or headphone
port and to your stereo. Put your stereo on Aux setting.
Turn your computer's sound level to Half (for best
performance). and use your stereo's remote to control the
volume level. I don't know how you could control the
functions of your stereo with your computer - that sounds
really technical and expensive. I just do it the way I
described and I think I bought that cord for 4-6 $ or so.
Good Luck!

.
You do need a sound card and you must know if you already
have sound or not. You can plug your stereo (mine is a
Yamaha stereo receiver) into your computer if there are
in/out audio plugs that are somewhere near and look like
the one you can plug your desktop or whatever
speakers/microphone into. Harware documentation of your
purchased product should help. You will need a "Y" stereo
plug (don't remember the proper name for it) from Future
Shop/Radio Shack that goes into two channels at the back
of your stereo (Tape PB, Aux. etc.) and then single plug
into PC. You can go both ways;
1) Stereo IN to PC so your PC speakers are added to the
external device, and you can record this to .WAV with a PC
mike though not very good quality (I don't know how to do
good stereo recording from external source through audio
IN otherwise) and
2) Stereo Out PC plug to your amp. so that whatever audio
your PC can do is played on your stereo system speakers as
well. If you can do this, and have DVD capability you are
in for a treat. Get The Lord of the Rings, stock up on
popcorn and forget about going to and paying at the
Cinema. Awesome.

I hope that works for you.
