sound is warped!

Hi,

Starting two days ago, all my MP3s on Windows Media
Player have started sounding warped -- as if I'm playing
on a Walkman with very low batteries. I've reset all the
equalizer settings, doesn't change anything. The same
files still sound fine when using another player. I have
WMP 9 on XP. I want to uninstall / reinstall -- I don't
know how to even to do that. Help!

The only thing I can think of that happened between when
it last worked was I tried to play a movie file that
seemed corrupted. So I closed it. Could it have launched
a virus?

Thanks,

Mark

Thanks. I reinstalled, no change. I then tried to delete
as much as I could of the original installation, then
reinstalled. No change.

It also turns out that WMA files sound fine. It's only my
MP3 collection. And the same MP3 files sound fine on
MusicMatch Jukebox. I ripped the MP3s using the Cyberlink
MP3 encoder using MediaPlayer. (These files played fine
on MediaPlayer for six months, until last week.)

I'm really stumped on this... I have no idea what to do.
If I knew which files were responsible for the MP3
decoding, I'd manually switch them with known good files.
Other than that, I think I will have to switch to another
media player.
