We got hold of this 2nd hand pc and install win xp and the DM shows us that
there is no driver for the multimedia audio controller. When we boot up, we
note the following 12/27/2004-848P-ICH55-SI79A8-00
Google it and it turn up no result. There is no mention of the brand of the
mobo except with Intel chipset FW82801EB // F426NA14 // SL73Z

Any idea where I can find the sound driver for this mobo? thanks

Make / model "should" be printed directly on the motherboard. You may
also find a FCC number printed on it to. With these, you should be
able to locate the manufacturer's web site. If the XP install does
not find a driver, you need to locate the "original" from the
motherboard's maker.

Just discoveredd that the Network card is not listed in DM. When I connect
the ethernet cable to the ethernet port, there is light

The other number we can identify are:-CEFE and nothing else.

Sorry there was an error and number should read as .......ICH5 -S179....

Do we have to open up and look at the backside of the mobo to see the nos?

You could try Beleric Advisor, and or CPUZ

The network card will always light up when the cable is connected to
it.

YES, you need to open up the case and look for the make / model
printing on the motherboard. This is really the only way you will be
able to find the make / model number, unless it is a Compaq, Dell or
IBM/Lenovo. Remember, turn off the power!!
