sound card

the computer dose not play any sound at all, there appears to be no soundcard detected by Windows and the msg "there are no active mixer devices avalible" is displayed when volume control is opened. how do i get the computer to detect it or let me reinstall it?

Hi, Rick. You haven't really given us enough to work with. Did you
computer ever play sounds? What sound card do you have? If it is
onboard, make sure it is not disabled in the BIOS. If it is a pci card,
open the computer (while the computer is off!) and reseat the card,
perhaps moving it to another pci slot. Start up and see if the card is
found. If it still isn't, perhaps the card has died. Swap out with a
known-working sound card. If this all seems a bit much (and it is OK if
it is!), then take the machine to a good local repair shop and have
them fix it for you.

hey yea well its a creative card the computer is only like 2 months old and the sound use to work but i obtained a virus which caused me to have to reformat and after i did it no longer detected it instead it treid to use my modem as the defaul sound device

You may have to install the drivers for your soundcard. If its onboard,
your motherboard drivers disk will have the ware. IF not, and you dont
know what your card/chipset is,
you might try:

after booting to dos with a dos disk.

Easy. JUst find and install the drivers according to the docs.
